Ron Barringer is a native of Washington, NC and began both his music, broadcasting, and Public Address careers during high school. A 1987 graduate of Washington High School. Ron attended Chowan University and ECU studying music as a low brass Major at both Schools.
While in college, Ron also served as Public Address announcer for the men’s basketball team at Chowan from 1993-1995. He has worked at several radio stations in North Carolina and Virginia throughout his career as an “on-air” personality and has performed Public Address for numerous events including athletics, talent shows, fashion shows and marching band competitions. Ron began his teaching career in 1993 and earned his B.S in Music Education from Chowan University in 1995. Ron is a veteran educator who taught the complete spectrum of band and music in public and private schools across all grade levels for 12 years. In 2004, he received a Masters degree in School Administration from NC State University.
In 2014, Ron joined The Moonlight Swing Band on lead trombone and became musical director in 2015 until 2017. Also in 2015, Ron became the “Voice of the Marching Pirates” at ECU. He also provides Public Address for several sports at ECU, NC State, and the Holly Springs Salamanders baseball club.
In 2019, Ron was inducted as an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi music service fraternity at ECU. He continues to serve on staff with the Marching Pirates, Clarke Co. (Virginia) High School Bands, and serves his church playing bass in the worship band.
2021 brought Ron back to The Moonlight Swing Band as music director and lead trombone.
Ron has been married to his wife, Michelle, for 24 years and resides in Wake Forest, NC. They have one daughter, Aurora.
