On alto sax, B.L. Efird, who says playing with a big band like the Moonlight Swing Band is a life-long dream, started playing sax in the junior high school band in La Grange NC in the fall of 1966 and continued playing on through his high school years at North Lenoir high in Lenoir County, NC where he also studied tenor and baritone sax.
After high school and college he played with a church orchestra in Newport News, Virginia for six years. Moving to South Carolina he continued performing in churches and for revivals.
In recent years B.L. has had the privilege of performing with Southern gospel groups and with the Peace Church orchestra in Wilson where he played for Sunday morning worship services and for the church’s annual Christmas theater productions.
B.L. is pastor of New Life Church in Lucama NC and is looking to starting an orchestra at his church. B.L. is a great musician and you really need to hear him play Harlem Nocturne.
Welcome B.L. Efird.
